Dr. David G. Horner joined EFL Associates in 2005 as Managing Director, Higher Education, Boston office.

Joining Dr. Michael “Mick” Ferrari and Dr. Gordon Lamb, these former college and university presidents/chancellors represent 54 years of chief executive experience in both the public and private sectors.  During his 24 years in the academic presidency, Dr. Horner provided transformative leadership to two institutions, Barrington College (RI) and North Park University (Chicago).  Appointed president of Barrington College (RI) in 1979 at the age of 29, he became the youngest college or university president in America.  In 1985, he played a leadership role in implementing the successful merger of Barrington and Gordon College (MA).  Between 1987 and 2004, he led the development of North Park College and Seminary into North Park University, a process that included: a tripling of enrollment; a six-fold increase in endowment; substantial diversification of the faculty, staff and student body; invention of undergraduate and graduate curricula, and physical transformation of the campus.

In 1978, Dr Horner joined the management consulting staff of KPMG, Peat Marwick where he helped establish the firm’s consulting practice with educational institutions on the West Coast.  His clients ranged from major, public universities (e.g., University of California, Berkeley) to smaller private colleges and universities.  He has taught at several institutions, among them Harvard University, and has presented professionally and/or published in the areas of business ethics, faith-based higher education, strategic planning, institutional governance, campus and community relationships, and leadership. 

Dr. Horner’s community and professional activities have included: President, Associated Colleges of Illinois; Executive Committee, Federation of Independent Illinois Colleges and Universities; Chair, Presidents’ Council, College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (NCAA Division III Athletic Conference); Board of Trustees and Chair of the Committee on the Future of the College, Gordon College; Board of Trustees and Chair of the Education Committee, Providence Country Day School; Board of Trustees, Stony Brook School; Board of Advisors, Salvation Army; Board of Directors, Covenant Trust Company; Council of Governors, Northwestern Healthcare Network; Corporate Advisory Committee, Rhode Island School of Design, Museum of Art.
