Dr. Clardy retired in 2007 as Executive Vice President and Dean of the School of Professional and Graduate Studies at Baker University after more than 17 years. The School developed into what was considered a model by other institutions and accrediting bodies.
As Executive Vice President, Dr. Clardy chaired development of the institutional strategic plan and the implementation of a re-engineered academic governance structure. Under his leadership the University Academic Council, the overriding academic policy and review body for the institution, reviewed and approved initiatives for each of the Schools ensuring consistency with the overall mission of the University. He was charged with institutional oversight of the preparation for reaccreditation visits and served on many search committees including membership on the presidential search committee. Dr. Clardy has also served as “acting president” during a presidential sabbatical at Baker University; and "interim president" at Tusculum College during a presidential search.
Dr. Clardy’s service has extended to organizations outside of the academy including his role as Chairperson of the Consortium for the Advancement of Adult Higher Education (CAAHE), and as a consultant for Hallmark, Development Dimensions International and Sprint’s University of Excellence. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences in areas such as strategic planning, succession planning, academic governance, faculty development and assessment.
Today, as a tenured faculty member, Dr. Clardy finds himself back in the classroom where his career started. He teaches history and holds a special interest in the CivilWar era. He also lends his experience in the classroom in the area of health and wellness and recently completed a personal goal by mastering Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa.
